Cooling Refrigerants of the Future. An air conditioner or heat pump relies on its refrigerant to cool and dehumidify the air before it’s streamed back into your home. This liquid is housed within the coils of your home’s cooling system, but one of the most common refrigerants used for a very long time – the R-22 (Freon) is now being gradually eliminated because of environmental concerns. In fact, this phase-out was mandated by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency through the Clean Air Act. Production of R-22 will cease by 2020. Introducing R-410A Chlorine-free and ozone-friendly, R-410A is recognized by the EPA. This means it will keep your AC running cool without harming the environment. Additionally, Lennox’s highest efficiency systems are designed to use this AC refrigerant, which can help your system function efficiently. The same Lennox systems are known for reliability, quiet operation and improved dehumidification, so you’ll stay comfortable. Additional Considerations At Tri County Air Care LLC in Dallas, our cooling products can work with R-410A. If your system was installed before 2010, you may want to consider replacing your cooling system now, before R-22 is completely phased out. Some manufacturers carry alternate refrigerants such as R-407C, R-438A and R-422, however, they may not work with an R-22 AC or heat pump and could compromise your system’s performance.
